Spring 2012 Color Trend: Tangerine

January 26th, 2012 § Leave a Comment

I saw the following on PerfectWeddingGuide.com and wanted to share with my Blended Beauté readers. I’m excited about some of the spring trends I’ve read about and am absolutely loving this gorgeous tangerine palette.

As posted on PerfectWeddingGuide.com:

Each year the color experts at Pantone announce the most striking colors that will take the fashion and interior design industries by storm, and within those selections, they designate a color of the year. For spring 2012, that color is Tangerine Tango (Pantone 17-1463). A bold reddish-orange hue that is sure to look fabulous in bridesmaid dresses, florals, linens and everything else in between.

We predict the tangerine craze taking over color pallets for spring and summer 2012 wedding. It’s a fresh and flirty color that evokes happiness whenever you see it! Are you liking Tangerine Tango? How would you incorporate the color into your big day?

Ritz-Carlton Arlington Wedding | Sheritta & Aaron

Photography – Cicely & Jason of Procopio Photography

One of the things I love about doing bridal makeup is the end result — seeing the dress, shoes, jewelry, hair and makeup all come together. I also enjoy seeing pictures from my clients’ weddings. Each image captures a moment, freezes it in time and tells a story for everyone to see. Here’s a wedding I had the pleasure of doing makeup for which was held at the Ritz-Carlton in Arlington. The amazing photography was captured by Cicely and Jason of Procopio Photography. I was with the bride from the beginning: her trial, engagement photos and finally her big day. It was a privilege to be a part of her special moments. To see all of the images, visit Procopio Photography’s blog here.

ARTISTRY essentials Hydrating Botanical Spa Collection

November 3rd, 2011 § Leave a Comment

I’m super picky when it comes to body washes, scrubs and lotions. I don’t just lather up with anything. It has to smell good, feel good and leave my skin oh so soft. The ARTISTRY essentials hydrating botanical spa collection does all of the above. I missed trying this spa collection last holiday season, so when it came back this year, I ordered it right away, and to quote the lyrics from one of my fave songs “Cheek to Cheek” performed by Ginger Rogers & Fred Astaire, it has me feeling like…

“Heaven…I’m in heaven,
And my heart beats so that I can hardly speak.
And I seem to find the happiness I seek, let me just say I’m in heaven!”

Wash away stress with the lush, foaming lather of the conditioning body wash which gently refines and cleanses. The smoothing body scrub softens and soothes away roughness, and the luxuriously hydrating body butter melts into my skin leaving it buttery soft. And I absolutely love the flowery fresh, botanical fragrance. It truly gives me that spa experience.

So if you’re looking for the perfect gift of pampering this holiday season or maybe you need to escape from a hectic day, then look no further. The ARTISTRY essentials hydrating botanical spa collection (also comes with a cute travel bag) is available for a limited time only, while supplies last. Check it out at ShopArtistryNow.com.

Gotta try: black | Up Cosmetics

October 27th, 2011 § Leave a Comment

black|Up cosmeticsI came across black|Up Cosmetics while flipping through Essence magazine. It immediately piqued my interest. According to their website, black|Up Cosmetics is the first luxury makeup artist brand created by professional makeup artists for ethnic skin tones & women of color yet it’s suitable for all women. Just looking at the products online, it seems as if they have a wide range of foundations in various textures and shades especially for women with deeper skin tones. The eye shadows, lip colors and other color collections seem rich and highly pigmented also. Their best-selling mattifying base is definitely on my list to try. Pricing for the line seems comparable to brands like MAC, Bobbi Brown, NARS to name a few. Lipsticks and glosses are $19-$21; foundations $39 and up; eye shadows $19; and their skin care products range from $21-$49.

Sam Fine Creative Director for Fashion Fair

October 20th, 2011 § 1 Comment

photo from chron.com

I was excited to read that Fashion Fair, the largest black-owned cosmetics company in the world recently tapped celebrity makeup artist Sam Fine to become its creative makeup director. My initial reaction: Finally, fresh life will be brought to the Fashion Fair brand!

INFO BELOW FROM HUFFINGTON POST:

“Sam Fine is a true artist who understands women of color and has built an illustrious career unparalleled in the industry. His experience in the fashion editorial world with global beauty brands and celebrities will translate wonderfully with Fashion Fair, and our consumers will reap its benefits. We’re thrilled to have him with us, and you’ll be able to track his progress at www.fashionfair.com,” says Clarisa Wilson, the president of Fashion Fair.

I hope Sam truly gets to execute his vision, because when I think of Fashion Fair, I think of Aunt Sue giving me a hug with a face full of orange, heavy makeup which she also leaves imprinted on my clothes! So I’m anticipating a fabulous new line from a brand that has been a favorite for many black women. After all, it was all we had back in the day. I also hope Fashion Fair becomes a brand that younger women of color can look to for trends and hot new shades of eye shadow and lip colors. It will be nice to see a range of colors that goes beyond the usual coppers, browns and bronzes. Fine will also launch a signature cosmetic collection called “Sam Fine For Fashion Fair” in 2012.

For fall, the brand introduced the Chocolate Seduction Collection, above: Golden Lights Beauty Highlighter, $17; lipsticks, $15-$18; eye shadows, $14. At Macy’s and fashionfair.com

Craving: Precison Brow Pencil from Senna Cosmetics

Sketch-A-Brow Pencil

Precision Brow Pencil from Senna Cosmetics

I could have cried when my favorite brow pencil from ARTISTRY was discontinued. Brow Define was a mechanical brow pencil that offered rich color to define brows on one end and a soft brow brush on the other end to blend color, groom, and accentuate the natural shape of the brow. I especially liked the ultra-fine yet firm tip that easily filled in brows, for a precise, natural, mistake-proof application. But I may be able to wipe the tears away with Senna Cosmetics’ Precision Brow Pencil. I recently ordered it in Mink (a rich deep brown), and can’t wait to try it. Like my fave from ARTISTRY, it also has a fine, firm tip for filling in sparse brows. The color is supposed to be long-lasting and smudge proof. The retractable tip never has to be sharpened (another feature I like) and features a blending comb on the other end. I’m a little skeptical about the blending comb (I prefer a brush) but time will tell. I just might love it. Precision Brow Pencil comes in four shades: blonde, light taupe, dark taupe and mink. Stay tuned as I will report back once I’ve tested it out.
