ARTISTRY Bloom In Colour Trend Collection

March 31st, 2011 § Leave a Comment

Spring is in the air and I’m loving the colors and trends in makeup. Fresh and fun are the buzzwords for this spring’s makeup looks. Washes of vivid color and sheer powders keep things light and airy. Smoky eyes in unexpected colors, like Fresh Pale Blue from ARTISTRY’s Spring Trend Collection. The glam, disco trend is reflected in metallic shimmers and high-shine lip colors like the Bloom In Color Eye Pencils and Lip Colors. And the Blush Duo adds a natural flush to cheeks complete with highlighter for a radiant glow. Check out the complete collection below created by celebrity makeup artist Frances Hathaway, and get inspired from some of the looks she created.

Want to try: Orissa Cosmetics

June 14th, 2010 § Leave a Comment

I recently learned about this UK-based company and am anxious to try their new line of mineral makeup for women with dark skin. According to the founders, market research indicated that women with darker skin tones (including African, Caribbean, Indian, Pakistani and Bangladeshi) were under-represented by UK’s mainstream cosmetics industry. So Orissa aims to “plug this gap by providing carefully selected shades of foundations, eye shadows, blushers, bronzers and lip colors for dark skin.” Orissa’s products are handmade in the UK using crushed natural earth minerals with no parabens, preservatives or chemical dyes. I’m loving their range of eyeshadow colors from earthy to bright. They don’t have much to offer among the blush and lip colors, but the company is just over a year old, so I’m hoping more colors are on the way. Orissa’s products are reasonably priced. Eyeshadows are about $6; Foundations $14; Blush $12. And international shipping to the U.S. should run around $6. I definitely plan to try the eyeshadows and foundation and provide a review soon. Blush Baby: Great Trick for Choosing the Right Color

March 25th, 2010 § Leave a Comment

A lot of people are afraid of blush for fear of looking like a clown: two red dots sitting on your cheeks is never cool. Some run from rouge because they’re still haunted by that one overzealous use of it or misstep in color choice. But worn the right way, blush can really give your skin a dewy, youthful flush and slim your face. So say bye-bye to your blush blues. There’s a great beauty trick (that I read about in Marie Claire) for choosing the right blush and it has nothing to do with your skin tone.

ALL ABOUT THE EYES Erin McCarthy, national education manager for Make Up For Ever, says use your eye color as your guide to find the right blush, and you’ll end up with a shade that illuminates your skin but also brings out your pretty eyes. Here are some color suggestions:

GREEN EYES What works: Any shade of pink. “It will make your eyes appear greener and more striking,” McCarthy says. What doesn’t: Deep plum. It neutralizes the yellow flecks. Try: Cargo blush in Amalfi at Sephora.com.

BLUE EYES What works: Peach or icy pink draws attention to light eyes. What doesn’t: Plum. Rather than enhancing your eyes it minimizes them. Try: Make Up For Ever High Definition Blush #6 Sephora.com.

BROWN EYES What works: Berry hues. Dark eyes often have hints of yellow in them, so they pop against pinkish plums. What doesn’t: Neutrals or browns. They blend into the yellow undertones of your eyes, leaving you looking drab. Try: MAC Spring Colour Forecast Blush Ombre in Azalea Blossom, maccosmetics.com.

HAZEL EYES What works: A pink with violet undertones, like mauve. It plays up the iris’s mix of green, charcoal and amber. What doesn’t: Orangey pinks. “They dull the base color of gray in hazel,” according to Jim Crawford, a celebrity makeup artist. Try: New York Color Blushable Creme Stick in Mauvin’ Uptown, at drugstores.

Tips and suggestions from April issue of Marie Claire, “Beauty Lab, Cheek Cheat Sheet.”
