It’s been crazy busy (which is good), but unfortunately, I haven’t been able to post regularly. So pardon the interruptions. :-) So I booked my first wedding for 2011 and I couldn’t be more excited! My client is tying the knot in April (my anniversary month as well) and she wanted to look elegant yet sexy. Her wedding is in the evening so she wants to play up her eyes with a smokey look. She didn’t want her entire eye to be smoked out so we opted for smokey definition in the outer corners of her eyes. My client loved her look and even took a poll amongst her family and friends on Facebook and everyone gave it a thumbs up!

And…

After

Flawless Faces Webisode Preview

September 8th, 2010 § 1 Comment

What’s the key to flawless makeup? Is it great skin? A good foundation and concealer? A pop of pretty color? I’d say it’s all of the above in addition to technique. Knowing how to apply your makeup is key to achieving the flawless results you desire. So I was excited to learn that fellow pro makeup artist Victoria Stiles (who’s work I admire) has partnered with CoverFX, Sigma Makeup and CARGO Cosmetics to bring a new webseries called Flawless Faces for All Races to YouTube!

Flawless Webisode Before and After; credit: MakeupArtistBackstage.com

The video series (there will be total of six) premieres on September 13th, and Victoria will be giving you her personal makeup tips and techniques to achieve a flawless look, no matter your age or ethnicity.

From Victoria: “Launching the series is Francia, a mother in her 30s who experiences oily skin, dark circles, and slight acne breakout.”

A few of her favorite key products used to achieve Francia’s look: Cover FX’s Big Cover Up Kit M Series; Sigma Makeup’s Concealer Brush F70; and Cargo Cosmetics Essential Eye Palette in Warm/Neutral.

I definitely look forward to watching every webisode and can’t wait for the launch. Check out a preview of next week’s launch with Francia. And here’s a little more about Victoria:

Bridal Beauté: Before and After

My client who wed recently at the beautiful Westfields Marriott in Chantilly wanted to look glam for her big day. She enjoys wearing makeup and likes to play up her eyes. So we created a wedding day look (smokey eyes in browns and golds, liner and of course lashes) that would enhance her favorite feature. We used a golden bronzer in lieu of blush and for the lips, a red-berry lipstick was the perfect choice to add a subtle pop to her overall look. She was a gorgeous bride and the camera loved her!

Who says bridal makeup has to be devoid of color? Used the right way, a little color can be a good thing for when you walk down the aisle.

Before

My client who gets married this month wanted to use color in her bridal look. She has a lively personality and was confidant in what she wanted. It was important, however, to strike the right balance so her overall look didn’t come across as too strong or busy. Here is the final result and the products used.

After

PREP Artistry Balancing Toner and Moisturizer; Replenishing Eye Cream; Skin Refinishing Lotion to prime skin and EpiSilk Lip Balm to prep lips.

FACE Artistry Balancing Foundation in Espresso and Mink; concealer in Dark; Lorac loose powder to set foundation; Artistry Aglow to highlight.

EYES Cinema Secrets Eye Primer; Artistry Eye Define pencil in Deep Brown for brows; MAC Paint Pot in Bamboon as a base; Eye shadows were a bordeaux, mid-tone pink and espresso color; Blacktrack fluidline; Ardell lashes; black waterproof mascara to blend her lashes with the falsies.

CHEEKS Refined Deeper Bronzer.

LIPS Mid-tone and plum lip liners; Artistry lip color in Delicate.

It truly is a privilege to be part of a bride’s special day. I’m happy when they are pleased with the look we create at the trial. I say “we” because being a bridal makeup artist is not me telling the bride how I think she should wear her makeup. But we work together to create her look. I listen to her plans, consider her wedding style and work within her comfort zone to create the bridal look she has in mind. Here is a recent trial (and products used) for a bride-to-be who knew the type of look she wanted for her evening black-tie wedding at the beautiful St. Regis Hotel in Washington, D.C.

Before

My client wanted a sophisticated yet classic look for her wedding. She also wanted to emphasize her eyes. We opted for  a soft gray eyeshadow palette. We also kept her overall look matte as she didn’t want any shimmer.

After

PRODUCTS

To prep skin: ARTISTRY Balancing Toner and Moisturizer; Replenishing Eye Cream; and Skin Refinishing Lotion to prime skin before foundation.

Face: Artistry concealer in Medium; Balancing Foundation and Powder in Natural.

Eyes: Artistry Bone E/S on lid, a mid-tone matte gray shadow in crease and Belgium Lace under brow; MAC Blacktrack fluidline eyeliner on top and bottom; a wispy yet natural false lash for added dimension; Artistry Total Mascara to blend her lashes into the falsies.

Wedding season is in full gear and I couldn’t be more excited! I enjoy working with brides and had a recent trial with a client who is walking down the aisle next month. She wants to do a soft, smokey eye for her wedding since the ceremony starts at 5 p.m. Following is the look we created for her big day and the products used.

BEFORE...

PREP My client has combination skin but it’s also sensitive so I refreshed her skin with ARTISTRY Balancing Toner, Replenishing Eye Cream and Balancing Moisturizer. All of which are hypo-allergenic. EpiSilk Lip Balm is one of my favorite products for getting lips soft and supple prior to applying lipstick.

AND AFTER...

EYES Cinema Secrets Eye Primer; MAC Paint Pot in Blackground; ARTISTRY Black Knight, Cocoa and Aglow eye shadows; MAC Blacktrack fluidline; #503 false lashes; black waterproof mascara to blend her lashes with the falsies.

FACE Black Opal foundation sticks Heavenly Honey and Truly Topaz mixed; ARTISTRY concealer in Medium; Lorac loose powder to set foundation; also used under the eyes to catch falling eye shadow and to highlight.

CHEEKS Bronzer; ARTISTRY Sunkissed blush on the apples of her cheeks.

LIPS Cork and Plum lip liners from MAC; ARTISTRY lip color in Delicate; Milani Gloss in Bee Gone.

Ready to say "I do."

My client loved her look and is ready to walk down the aisle.

Keri Hilson’s New (?) Do

June 29th, 2010 § Leave a Comment

Keri Hilson looks great with her new do which she debuted Sunday at the BET Awards in L.A. Rita Hazan, celebrity colorist and owner of the Rita Hazan Salon in New York City, gave her the full hair makeover. With a new album on the way, I hear Keri wanted a fresh new look. And summer just screams for blond. “Keri had medium brown hair. I thought it would be cool to leave the sides dark and lighten the whole top to a honey blond with many different tones,” said Hazan. The cropped, colored coiffure suits her well, but it’s hard to ignore the fact that it resembles Rihanna’s which she has rocked since November. Coincidence? Whatever the case, Keri is workin’ it, and the saying must be true: Blondes have more fun!

MORE Magazine’s Reinvention Convention

March 18th, 2010 § Leave a Comment

“Invest in yourself,” was one of many messages at MORE Magazine’s Reinvention Convention which was held here in the nation’s capital on March 8th. I was one of several makeup artists who provided makeup for featured speakers such as Barbara Corcoran, Jean Chatzy, Susan Swimmer, Dr. Pamela Peeke, Mary Alice Stephenson, makeover winners and more. It was a great event which gave women the opportunity to meet new friends, talk to experts and enjoy a day of fun designed for them. Attendees learned valuable ways to “reinvent their career, revive their look, rev up their energy, reimagine their future, reinvigorate their sex life, revise their priorities and recharge their life.” It was such great energy at the event, and I met a lot of fabulous women. Here are a few pictures from the day.

Barbara Corcoran shares advice on the road to reinvention.

The Reinvention Convention was held at the Ronald Reagan building.

Yours truly with Julia, one of the makeover winners, before her transformation.

Celebrity stylist Mary Alice Stephenson presents Julia after her makeover and gives advice on reviving your look. Clothes were provided by Talbots.

Giorgio Armani’s national makeup artist Tim Quinn, far right, was on hand as attendees received personal makeup consultations throughout the day.

The next stop for MORE Magazine’s Reinvention Convention is Chicago’s Navy Pier on May 17th. Visit MoreMagazine.com for information on guest speakers, registration and more.

What is it time for you to reinvent?
