Celebrity Looks for New Year’s Eve

December 29th, 2010 § 3 Comments

Still need some inspiration for your New Year’s Eve makeup? Well, let’s look to a few celebrities who cover a range of skin tones for some party makeup ideas.

GOLDEN GLOW with Carrie Underwood I can’t remember what magazine I was flipping through when I came across this pic of Carrie Underwood. Her makeup is fabulous and her look is ideal if you to dazzle and sparkle for New Year’s Eve. It’s all about the eye makeup for this look paired nicely with nude lips. Black eyeliner is your friend for these well-defined eyes. Metallic gold on the lids and lots of mascara or falsies.

BROWN SMOKEY EYES with Keri Hilson Give brown smokey eyes a little twist with shimmery golden eyeshadow applied to the inner corners. This really makes hazel eyes pop. Stay in the warm color palette by complementing the look with peachy lips and cheeks.

SPARKLY NAVY EYES with Estelle For my Blended Beauties with a darker skin tone, take a break from black and go navy! This looks just as sexy as all black without being too heavy or overpowering. That’s right, you can wear blue, so come out of that comfort zone and give it a try.

Happy New Year!

New Year’s Eve Makeup Ideas

December 29th, 2009 § 2 Comments

No matter where you plan to celebrate New Year’s Eve, make sure your makeup is party-perfect. Get inspired from these celebrity looks to ring in 2010!

ALICIA KEYS Stand out in the crowd with this frosty look. It’s all about the eyes so keep cheeks and lips soft. A bit of pink blush on cheeks and a sheer bubble-gum pink lip gloss on your lips. Use black liner on the inner rims; blue eyeliner along your top and bottom lash lines, slightly smudged on the bottom. Then apply a matching blue shadow on your lids up to the creases. And don’t forget false eyelashes. Cut full lash strips in half and use the outer half only for a winged look. Apply mascara before and after applying false lashes to blend your real lashes into the fake ones.

RIHANNA Go bold and bronze. On cheeks a peachy-bronze blush. For the eyes, dark brown or black eyeliner on your inner rims. Then sweep a coppery-bronze eyeshadow on your lids and blend up to your brow bones. Curl lashes and apply mascara. Paint your pucker with a pink lipstick that has a shiny finish.

HAYDEN PANETTIERE Play up your lips with a pop of color for that New Year’s Eve bash. Use a brow pencil to fill in your brows for definition. Black eyeliner on upper and lower lash lines and inner rims, smudging out the corners a bit. Apply two coats of black mascara (false lashes optional) to finish your eyes. Sweep bronzer lightly on the apples of your cheeks and forehead. For the lips, line with a cherry red lip pencil then fill them in to help the color stay. Follow up with a matching lipstick that has a slight sheen. Make sure lips are moisturized beforehand so there’s no flaking or feathering.

CIARA You are sure to turn heads with this lash look. Line your inner rims with black eyeliner. Then, use a light gray shadow on your lids and a silver or white shadow on your inner corners. Apply extra long false eyelashes and apply a coat of mascara before and after to blend your real lashes with the false ones. Go for a dewy finish to your skin and apply a highlighter to your cheekbones. Then apply pale pink lipgloss to finish the look.

Happy New Year!

Holiday Gift Ideas: e.l.f Cosmetics

December 15th, 2009 § 4 Comments

I was in Targáis (Target) the other day to pick up a few things but got totally sidetracked and suckered into buying some of e.l.f Cosmetics’ holiday sets. They are too cute! Perfect stocking stuffers at unbelievably low prices. From smokey eye shadow kits, lip gloss, nail polish and liquid eyeliner sets to complete makeup collections and brush sets. If you’re familiar with e.l.f, then you know just about everything is $1 and it’s not bad makeup at all. Pricing for the gift sets ranges from $3-$40.

I picked up the above lip gloss set for only $5. The colors are great and will complement any skin tone. They also had a three-piece set for, you guessed it, three bucks!

I couldn’t pass up the nail polish either. Really pretty colors. The set pictured is only $5. The collection I bought included gorgeous deep purple, midnight blue and pearl white shades. And I couldn’t leave without the liquid eyeliner set that came in three colors: rich black, white and glitter. Check out e.l.f.’s other beauty buys at your local Target or www.target.com.

Keep following Blended Beauté because our next giveaway is coming up. Temporary tattoos anyone?

Hot Holiday Party Looks 2: Go for the Glitter

December 10th, 2009 § Leave a Comment

Holiday parties are the perfect time to add a little shimmer, so why not go for full sparkle. One way to add some twinkle to your eyes is with glitter. One technique I like thanks to celebrity makeup artist Gucci Westman is to dust glitter onto the center of the lid and then sheer out with a dot of moisturizer to make it look more lived in and effortless. My go-to glitter is Make Up For Ever’s Diamond Powder ($24). They’re lightweight, fine particles of bright light that add glamour to any type of makeup, and they can be used on the face or body. A little goes a long way with Diamond Powder as well. For a long-lasting effect: Pat on the skin with a wet brush. Some other brilliant beauty tips:

“Sprinkle onto lip gloss in the evening to emphasize lip volume. To make glitter adhere to the body or hair, first spray these areas with water, then place a small amount of glitter in the palm of your hand and gently blow onto the dampened areas.” — MUFE creator Dany Sanz

So get ready to party because it’s never too late to shimmer!

A catwalk just wouldn’t be a catwalk without glitters. These lightweight, fine particles of bright light add glamour to any type of makeup – on the face or body. A little bit goes a long way. Just pat on the skin with a wet brush for a long-lasting effect.Dany’s Tip: “Sprinkle onto lip gloss in the evening to emphasize lip volume. To make glitter adhere to the body or hair, first spray these areas with water, then place a small amount glitter in the palm of your hand and gently blow onto the dampened areas.”

Hot Holiday Party Looks

December 1st, 2009 § Leave a Comment

The holiday party season is here and now is the time to shine with sexy, sultry makeup that will get you noticed.

LUSCIOUS LIPS Get glam with a lacquered lip. Put the sticky gloss aside and go for a chrome-like finish that’s super-shiny and sparkly. Berries, wines and reds are great holiday lip colors so don’t be afraid to add a little punch of color. Some lip lacquers to consider: Lancome La Laque Fever Ultimate Lasting Full Color Lipshine available in 20 shades; and Smashbox’s WISH for the Perfect Pout set which has six gorgeous holiday-ready glosses.

SOFT SMOKY EYES A classic holiday party look you can certainly never go wrong with. But think outside the black, brown, or gray box and try more vibrant hues. Purples are hot this season so get playful with a purple smoky eye that makes any eye color pop. Use eyeliner to define your eyes and coat your lashes with mascara. Pair with a gorgeous soft nude lip.

AU NATURALE If you prefer to stay in the natural zone, that’s okay too. Try sultry, sparkling eyes in golds, champagnes, soft peach tones, pink tones or lavender, depending on your complexion. And add a little bit of black eyeliner along the lashline and a white eyeliner on your waterline, which will make your eyes appear bigger.

CONGRATS to Naseya and Tina, winners in the “Smoky Eyes” drawing. Keep following Blended Beauté for your chance to win. In the spirit of hot holiday party looks, we will have some luscious lipshines up for grabs next!!

Estee Lauder TurboLash Mascara with Gold Effects

November 1st, 2009 § Leave a Comment

GoldEffectsMascaraHoliday collections from all the major cosmetic companies are out in full force. One product that immediately caught my eye from Estee Lauder’s Ultimate Red collection is the motion mascara with sparkling Gold Effects ($32). It’s the ever-popular vibrating mascara where the “brush does it all” and your lashes “shimmer dramatically with flecks of gold,” so says Estee. If you’ve tried one vibrating mascara, you’ve tried them all in my opinion, but the shimmering gold flecks is what I was curious about. Va va va voom? Not even close. The mascara did nothing for my lashes. No volume, thickness or length. I wasn’t surprised, honestly. Out of all the vibrating mascaras I’ve tried, not one delivers even two out of the three. And the sparkle, shimmer, twinkle on my eyes? Subtle and unnoticeable. I really wanted to like this mascara but as the saying goes, all that glitters is not gold.

We did it! It’s been a lot of work, but I’m proud to announce that Shades of Shauné has launched a new web site and logo. It was time for a makeover, and we want to thank everyone who made this possible: My husband for his insight and feedback; BigFolio and GoDaddy for making this a smooth process; Logo Design Company for the new logo and excellent customer service; the many photographers and models we’ve worked with; and to our clients for your constant support. We hope you enjoy the new look!

This issue of Shades of You continues in the spirit of making over, or as I also like to say, making better. First, we tackle tips for applying false lashes. With the holiday party season approaching, we want to ensure that you will be ready to bat your lashes with confidence. We will also hip you to the hottest makeup looks for the festivities. And lastly, as the food flows and drinks dwindle this party season, learn how to give your lip color lasting power.
