Trend Beauté: Instant Mascara with Eyelash Extensions

March 15th, 2010 § 2 Comments

I’m sure you’ve seen and heard about eyelash extensions. Semi-permanent lashes that can add length, volume and drama just like a good mascara. After an intensive training and certification course through Shavasana, I now see why people rave about them and I just had to add them to my makeup artistry services.

The lowdown: Your bottom lashes are held down with an anti-aging gel pad and/or surgical tape. Then pre-curled synthetic lashes are attached along your upper lash line and throughout your lashes, using 60-90 lashes per eye, in various lengths to create a sweep effect.

The results: Length. Volume. Drama. Eyelash extensions last 4-6 weeks (without touch-ups) before they start falling out with your natural lashes. With regular touch-ups (every 2-4 weeks) they can last up to 8-12 weeks.

You can flirt and flutter in pure mink extensions, silk eyelashes or synthetic. There are many different styles you can create also. Some popular styles include applying lashes to the outside corner of your eyes for a feminine and fun look or the 50′s-style pinup (extra thick lashes all the same length).

Forget about the mascara, eyeliner and lash curlers because eyelash extensions eliminate the need for them. So if you haven’t mastered applying fake eyelashes on yourself, then these are a great alternative.

Extensions can cost from $150-$500 depending on the style desired and type of lash used. But the end result will have you batting your lashes with confidence.

Cutting-Edge Eyes?

I love fantasy eyelashes but not the way supermodel Agyness Deyn wore them for the ACE Awards in New York Tuesday night. The  Agynesseye-stopping look was created using Shu Uemura’s Black Velvet Feather False Eyelashes ($25). I hear Deyn, known as “the fashion industry’s next great supermodel” stole the limelight on the red carpet with this look. I’m sure she did as in “What was she thinking?” “Agyness is a cutting edge girl,” said Deyn’s makeup artist Frances Hathaway. “I needed a fashion forward lash with an architectural influence.” What’s Hathaway’s tip for pulling off such a look? “When making such a big statement, keep it simple; just make one lash.” Umm I think I’ll pass.

Beauté Spotlight: Shu Uemura Partial Cross Lashes

Each week, Blended Beauté is going to spotlight a beauty product that we really like. It could be something I personally use or a product I’ve added to my makeup kit. It might also be a pick from our staff. Whatever the selection, you can bet that we’ve tried it, used it and loved it. Shu Uemura lashesSo this week, our Beauté spotlight is on Shu Uemura Partial Cross Lashes ($16). I have been in LOVE with these lashes for a while. They’re delicate clusters that may be used all at once, or just to accent the corners of the eye to create an elegant look. I used them in a photo shoot and wore my personal pair to a party recently. They also look great on brides as they are soft and natural looking. If you’ve never applied false lashes on yourself, give these a go. Because they’re divided into quarters, they can be easier to apply than a full set of lashes. I think you’ll be surprised just how easy it is.
