Favorite Things Giveaway 3: Luscious Lips

December 4th, 2009 § Leave a Comment

Smile bright for the holidays with five of our favorite lip products that will definitely give you the perfect pout.

Revitalize, hydrate, and pamper your lips so that new lip color you’ve been dying to wear looks its best. The Artistry Lip Care Kit offers a gentle exfoliating Lip Polish that lightly buffs away dry skin cells from lips, while the Lip Conditioner instantly softens, soothes, and smoothes. This kit is a Blended Beauté favorite because it truly creates soft, supple lips. And both products together provide the ultimate protection without being heavy or sticky.

Smashbox’s WISH for the Perfect Pout is a limited-edition set of six gorgeous glosses showcasing best-selling and new-for-holiday shades, including two bonus full-size glosses. The set includese Pout (full size), Luster (full size), Tease, Candy, Aura and Radiant.

Get high shine and major flavor with Victoria’s Secret Beauty Rush lip glosses. The set includes Cherry Bomb (sheer red), Strawberry Fizz (light pink shimmer) and Cupquake (pink shimmer). Pucker up with a satiny swipe of yummy color.

Want a grown and sexy lipshine? Then reach for Lancôme’s La Laque Fever Ultimate Lasting Full Color Lipshine. I loved this when PR sent it to try because of its great color payoff and shine in one gliding stroke. And it truly is lasting. I didn’t need to touch up for hours. I usually don’t like the applicators that come with glosses, but this “soft-sculpt” applicator is different. Not only does the color glide on, but it precisely defines fuller lips in an even layer and shapes the contours of the lips for a great application. Fever lipshine is available in over 20 shades too. Since purple is hot this season, we have the universally flattering Plum Savvy up for grabs!

I’d never heard of Laneíge Cosmetics until a trip to San Diego over the summer. I was shopping in a small boutique in Old Town where I tried several products. Truly liked the Snow Crystal Sheer Lipgloss and love the concept behind the line:

“When light meets snow crystals, the reflection generates different effects in each of the six steps in the snow’s journey. Those effects are incorporated in the makeup line of Laneíge.”

Snow Crystal Sheer lipgloss has beautiful shimmer and shine without stickiness. The texture is light and the finish is glassy, sleek, sheer brilliance. It has a great soft-tip applicator as well. It comes in 15 shades of which Shine Purple is up for grabs.

Show and Tell: Lancome Oscillating Primer and Mascara

Oscillation Primer

Blended Beauté put Lancome's Oscillation Powerbooster Primer and mascara to the test.

In the words of an old-school classic by Soul II Soul, “back to life, back to reality, back to the here and now.” Had a wonderful time in San Diego and will be spotlighting some great beauty products I tried in future posts.

Okay, I’ve seen the commercials, glossy print ads and displays in various stores touting the latest mascara trend: Oscillating mascara. Several companies have come out with their version of the technology promising great results from a little vibrating brush. I love a good mascara and have been curious about this vibration sensation. Blended Beauté put Ôscillation Powerbooster Primer and Ôscillation Mascara from Lancome to the test. Ôscillation claims to do all the work. There’s no need to “wiggle” the brush side-to-side or rotate the wand. Just comb straight through and the vibrating brush will deposit mascara smoothly around the entire lash. I tested both for one week and did my review based on the claims each product makes.

Ôscillation Powerbooster Primer ($39):

  • See lash expansion day after day
  • Helps lashes reach their full potential and boost the appearance of natural lash growth.
  • Reinforces separation and coverage; formula is coated onto lashes to allow for Oscillation Mascaramascara to glide.
  • Visibly stronger, fuller, longer lashes.
  • Denser lash fringe
  • Thicker lashes

Ôscillation PowerMascara ($34):

  • Lashes appear extended
  • Remarkably separated
  • Visibly multiplied in number

My favorite was definitely the primer which doubles as a conditioner. It created a great base to increase the length, volume and definition of my lashes. It separated and coated them and allowed the mascara to glide on. With the primer alone, my lashes were fuller, longer and thicker. There truly is no need to wiggle the wand because the oscillating brush did distribute the product evenly. I didn’t see lash expansion or a denser lash fringe after using it for a week, however. The vibration from the brush tickles, which was bothersome and kind of annoying. And my hand got tired from pressing the wand while applying product.

The mascara made good on its promise to separate my lashes and they did appear longer. I would have loved more volume and thickness from this formula. I applied several coats but my lashes didn’t look visibly multiplied.

The primer is a keeper, but for $39, there are cheaper lash primers and conditioners that do just as good a job as this one. You’re definitely paying for the vibration mechanism and sleek design. And there are much better mascaras sans the vibration, from Lancome and other brands, that will give you better results for less than $34.

I’ve got the blues but it’s okay. Lancome’s Declaring Indigo Fall 09 Color collection is a cool ensemble modeled after the free spirit of a woman. I especially like the Ink Artliner in Indigo Charm ($23.50). Can you say oh sooo pretty! It’s a deep royal blue gel liner that’s creamy, smooth to apply, and dries so it won’t smudge or budge. This liner has some serious staying power! I actually prefer gel liners because of this. I played around with it the other day and added a bright pop of color via an exaggerated cat-eye. Who says black is only for that? If you’re really daring, try it on your bottom lash line too. I’m definitely adding this to my kit. I also tried the Color Fever Gloss ($25) in Rouge Magnificence. This gloss has such a vibrant shine. And don’t let the brightness of the red intimidate you. It’s sheer but still has some color payoff. I tried the gloss alone and over one of my favorite reds (that shares the same name) Rouge from Artistry ($15). It’s a vivid coral-red creme lipstick, and the Color Fever gloss gave it a radiant shine. So what will you be declaring for fall?
