Keri Hilson’s New (?) Do

June 29th, 2010 § Leave a Comment

Keri Hilson looks great with her new do which she debuted Sunday at the BET Awards in L.A. Rita Hazan, celebrity colorist and owner of the Rita Hazan Salon in New York City, gave her the full hair makeover. With a new album on the way, I hear Keri wanted a fresh new look. And summer just screams for blond. “Keri had medium brown hair. I thought it would be cool to leave the sides dark and lighten the whole top to a honey blond with many different tones,” said Hazan. The cropped, colored coiffure suits her well, but it’s hard to ignore the fact that it resembles Rihanna’s which she has rocked since November. Coincidence? Whatever the case, Keri is workin’ it, and the saying must be true: Blondes have more fun!

Great Grammy Makeup

February 1st, 2010 § Leave a Comment

There were plenty of pretty faces and great makeup at the 2010 Grammy Awards. From fun and modest makeup to classy and dramatic, some stars didn’t disappoint. Here are a few of my favorites.

JENNIFER HUDSON Loved her glowing skin, gold eye shadow, pretty pink lips and blunt bangs.

JENNIFER LOPEZ  Loved her dramatic eyes. They weren’t overdone and very sexy. And her soft blush and lips were the perfect complement.

LADY GAGA wasn’t afraid to have fun with her makeup. Then again, I don’t think she’s afraid of anything! She constantly pushes the envelope and takes “it” there. Her lemon yellow hair extensions, dark brows and candy pink lips worked with her futuristic ensemble. Kinda Marilyn Monroe meets the Jetsons to me.

RIHANNA Her red carpet look was lovely with her couture Elie Saab gown. The shimmer eye shadow, spidery-spiky false lashes, her glowing skin and perfectly illuminated cheekbones were gorgeous and glam.

CIARA had a flawless golden finish to her overall look. Her lashes were flirty; her cheeks nicely sculpted and highlighted.  And I’m loving the creamy nude lips with a touch of shimmery gloss right in the center for added pop.

Other celebs’ makeup I also liked: Mary J and Keri Hilson’s dramatic eyes; Miley Cyrus’ young, fresh, modern makeup and Leah Michelle’s (of “Glee”) glowy yet understated look.

TREND Beauté: Spring 2010 Nails

January 11th, 2010 § 2 Comments

Nail trends for spring cover a range of colors and looks, and promise something for everyone. Read on to see what looks suit you.

PUTTY I’m loving Chanel who’s going putty for spring. If nudes or neutrals are your preference, then this palette may suit you. Their big “IT” color is Particuliere, a violet-based putty taupe. I hear it’s a whole new take on gray polish and works on fingers and toes for any skin tone. I may have to splurge ($23) and give it a try. The other colors are Tendresse, a soft sheer pink; and Inattendu, a nude-beige cream with peachy undertones. The colors will be available by the end of January at select Chanel counters. « Read the rest of this entry »

New Year’s Eve Makeup Ideas

December 29th, 2009 § 2 Comments

No matter where you plan to celebrate New Year’s Eve, make sure your makeup is party-perfect. Get inspired from these celebrity looks to ring in 2010!

ALICIA KEYS Stand out in the crowd with this frosty look. It’s all about the eyes so keep cheeks and lips soft. A bit of pink blush on cheeks and a sheer bubble-gum pink lip gloss on your lips. Use black liner on the inner rims; blue eyeliner along your top and bottom lash lines, slightly smudged on the bottom. Then apply a matching blue shadow on your lids up to the creases. And don’t forget false eyelashes. Cut full lash strips in half and use the outer half only for a winged look. Apply mascara before and after applying false lashes to blend your real lashes into the fake ones.

RIHANNA Go bold and bronze. On cheeks a peachy-bronze blush. For the eyes, dark brown or black eyeliner on your inner rims. Then sweep a coppery-bronze eyeshadow on your lids and blend up to your brow bones. Curl lashes and apply mascara. Paint your pucker with a pink lipstick that has a shiny finish.

HAYDEN PANETTIERE Play up your lips with a pop of color for that New Year’s Eve bash. Use a brow pencil to fill in your brows for definition. Black eyeliner on upper and lower lash lines and inner rims, smudging out the corners a bit. Apply two coats of black mascara (false lashes optional) to finish your eyes. Sweep bronzer lightly on the apples of your cheeks and forehead. For the lips, line with a cherry red lip pencil then fill them in to help the color stay. Follow up with a matching lipstick that has a slight sheen. Make sure lips are moisturized beforehand so there’s no flaking or feathering.

CIARA You are sure to turn heads with this lash look. Line your inner rims with black eyeliner. Then, use a light gray shadow on your lids and a silver or white shadow on your inner corners. Apply extra long false eyelashes and apply a coat of mascara before and after to blend your real lashes with the false ones. Go for a dewy finish to your skin and apply a highlighter to your cheekbones. Then apply pale pink lipgloss to finish the look.

Happy New Year!

Punch up Your Pucker with Color

July 9th, 2009 § Leave a Comment

Summer’s in full effect so pale puckers get ready for some bold color.  Feel fun, free and flirtatious with fuchsia. Who says summer is just for bronzed or barely-there makeup? Your time to shine is now with bright, cool, candy coated shades. Need some inspiration? Think Rihanna. This daring diva knows how to work a bold lip — especially fuchsia — and I’m feeling this pretty-in-pink mentality. A bold lip works best when worn effortlessly on a pared-down face (think creamy tinted moisturizer, mascara, well-groomed brows). You’ll stand out in the crowd, on the runway and simmer on the street. Creative director Pat McGrath for CoverGirl and Max Factor said it best in a recent issue of Essence, “The key to working electric color is to keep the look chic and simple.” And yes, you can still do smoky eyes.  But go for smoky neutral eyes, bronzed skin and then that eye-popping pink lip. So what are you waiting for? It’s time to go bold!

HAUTE Beauté: Rockin’ Rihanna

May 8th, 2009 § 1 Comment

Rihanna never disappoints with her makeup, fashion and style — which is exactly what BLENDED Beauté is about. The megastar and trendsetter looked sassy while heating up the red carpet at the Costume Institute’s annual gala at the Metropolitan Museum of Art (MET). The “Good Girl Gone Bad” brings her own flava to any event, and spiced up the gala in a Dolce & Gabbana cropped pant suit with a haute couture tuxedo jacket. She pulls off the exaggerated shoulders with ease like only a true risk-taking fashionista could. And her hair and makeup are always on point. This darling diva has truly brought her own style into the game. Take a bow. This show definitely isn’t over now.
