Cutting-Edge Eyes?

November 4th, 2009 § Leave a Comment

I love fantasy eyelashes but not the way supermodel Agyness Deyn wore them for the ACE Awards in New York Tuesday night. The  Agynesseye-stopping look was created using Shu Uemura’s Black Velvet Feather False Eyelashes ($25). I hear Deyn, known as “the fashion industry’s next great supermodel” stole the limelight on the red carpet with this look. I’m sure she did as in “What was she thinking?” “Agyness is a cutting edge girl,” said Deyn’s makeup artist Frances Hathaway. “I needed a fashion forward lash with an architectural influence.” What’s Hathaway’s tip for pulling off such a look? “When making such a big statement, keep it simple; just make one lash.” Umm I think I’ll pass.

Product Review: Shu Uemura Eyebrow Gel

October 20th, 2009 § 2 Comments

I spent a lot of time with Shu Uemura’s Eyebrow Gel since ordering it in August and was excited about the concept. If you missed my previous writeup, click here. I initially ordered seal brown since I had dyed my hair, but the color was not what IEyeBrowGel was expecting. It was an ashy brown (not the reddish brown I was hoping for) and it looked chalky on my brows. So I exchanged it for forest black. I’m still not in love with the color (it’s more of a grayish black). I used a small angled brow brush to apply the gel. Shu Uemura also recommends their natural badger brush, but for $29, my small angled brow brush was just fine. The gel has a fine, smooth texture but kinda clumps and crumbles. I used short, feathery strokes when applying as if mimicking actual brow hairs. The color payoff is sheer, almost too sheer in my opinion. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t like overly drawn in, hard-looking brows, but you have to layer this product to build color so it takes extra steps. The only thing I liked about this gel is its staying power. It’s not going anywhere! It’s waterproof and resistant to sebum. I have oily skin so it stood up to that. Again, the concept is great, but it didn’t outperform my tried-and-true method of enhancing brows: a fine-point brow pencil, translucent powder and clear mascara. I’ll stick with that.

Shu Uemura Eye Brow Gel

August 31st, 2009 § 2 Comments

EyeBrowGelYou gotta love Shu Uemura for continually introducing revolutionary products to the beauty market. One of their newest, Eye Brow Gel, recently launched and truly has my brows raised.

I love natural, elegant brows and this product aims to deliver both in a unique gel formula. Here’s more about it:

“Eyebrow Gel creates a subtle, long-lasting color tint for beautiful results. Powder eye brow makeup gives great coverage, but it can  look unnatural. The unique formula of shu uemura’s Eye Brow Gel gives the coverage of a powder, but is almost undetectable. Its fine and smooth texture glides into the gaps of each brow hair, filling the brows with sheer color.”

Eye brow Gel is waterproof, resistant to sebum, and reportedly has a long-lasting finish that stays perfect all day. The gel comes in five colors from lighter sheer color to deep defining shades: light brown, hazel brown, acorn brown, seal brown and forest black. Visit Shu Uemura here to get a better look at the colors.

I ordered seal brown as I recently dyed my hair and think black might be too dark. I can’t wait to try it out. Stay tuned!

In the spirit of great-looking brows, I’ve also been testing and trying products from several companies including Senna, Natural Born, Face Atelier and Steelo. So keep following Blended Beauté and see which products get our wink of approval.

Silky, Sexy, Smooth

August 28th, 2009 § Leave a Comment

Since returning from vacation, my skin was in need of a little TLC. I didn’t get much rest because the three-hour time change was quite an adjustment for my 2-year-old. So I took some “me time” last night to get my sexy smooth back. Even my husband wanted me to divulge the secrets to my soft face and legs. I refused but he wouldn’t take “no” for an answer. Can’t a girl keep some things to herself? I actually like that he notices and is interested in my beauty regimen. I finally gave in and told him about my magic potions. Ha ha ha…

MicroDeliveryPeel

FACE TIME My face was in need of deep cleansing and exfoliating to restore its usually smooth texture. Enter, Philosophy’s Microdelivery Peel and Artistry’s Skin Refinishing Lotion. The Microdelivery Peel Kit is a two-step exfoliating system. Think skin makeover or microdermabasion at home. The refinishing lotion is truly like velvet on your skin, only better! I always use after I exfoliate though it can be used daily. It has a combination of sugar derivatives and algae in addition to oat proteins, scientifically proven for their smoothing benefits. These were just what I needed to get my glow on.

SkinRefinishingLotion

A LEG UP Hair be gone! GiGi’s Organic Milk and Honey Wax is my go-to product for hair removal on my legs. I have a wax warmer at home, and in no time at all, this wax is ready to use. It’s a gentle creamy soft wax suitable for all skin types and formulated with natural honey and milk extract. Honey extract rejuvenates and hydrates while milk extract contains essential nutrients to soften and condition the skin. It’s all-natural and contains no mineral oil, artificial fragrances or harsh chemicals. After waxing, I always follow up with Shu Uemura’s Cleansing Oil Classic. That’s right. I use this cleansing oil not just on my face. I lather it on my  legs and use a razor to remove any hair I might have missed. It’s a great cleanser that doubles as a shaving oil for me, and it leaves my skin extra soft. To seal the deal and lock in moisture, I turn to Nivea’s Essentially Enriched body lotion. Ah, at last…Silky. Sexy. Smooth.

Tokyo Kamon Girls Cleansing Oils

August 9th, 2009 § Leave a Comment

Classic Cleansing OilBring a little fun and art to your skin care routine with Tokyo Kamon Girls Cleansing Oils by Moyoco Anno. Shu Uemura collaborated with the renowned manga artist and beauty expert to present a limited-edition collection of five of their iconic Cleansing Oils ($65-$75). The packaging on the entire collection is playful yet beautiful and would be a gorgeous addition to any bathroom or vanity. It’s Japanese contemporary art meets the art of beauty. Each oil is adorned with traditional Kamon crests and images of women living in contemporary Tokyo. It was definitely love at first sight when Blended Beauté received Cleansing Oil Classic to try. Leaves and vines playfully intertwine on the bottle which features an image of the fulfilled Tokyo Kamon girl, Tsuruha. The cleanser is very mild and surprisingly removed my makeup (even waterproof mascara) while gently cleansing and moisturizing my skin. My husband tried it while shaving and said it made for a comfortable, smooth shave and really calmed his skin. The cleanser, which contains Camellia and Ginger Root oils to maintain skin’s moisture, has a light, pleasant fragrance and left my face as soft as a petal. Add this to your beauty arsenal while supplies last!

Beauté Spotlight: Shu Uemura Partial Cross Lashes

August 4th, 2009 § Leave a Comment

Each week, Blended Beauté is going to spotlight a beauty product that we really like. It could be something I personally use or a product I’ve added to my makeup kit. It might also be a pick from our staff. Whatever the selection, you can bet that we’ve tried it, used it and loved it. Shu Uemura lashesSo this week, our Beauté spotlight is on Shu Uemura Partial Cross Lashes ($16). I have been in LOVE with these lashes for a while. They’re delicate clusters that may be used all at once, or just to accent the corners of the eye to create an elegant look. I used them in a photo shoot and wore my personal pair to a party recently. They also look great on brides as they are soft and natural looking. If you’ve never applied false lashes on yourself, give these a go. Because they’re divided into quarters, they can be easier to apply than a full set of lashes. I think you’ll be surprised just how easy it is.

I want to take a moment to put my friend and fellow makeup artist, Karen Sidbury of Face4ward Makeup Artistry, in the spotlight too. She launched a new blog, Kinetic Esthétique. Check it out as she “navigates the ever-changing landscape of style.” Her blog features beauty and makeup advice, men’s fashion, commentary, product reviews, information on local events and links to relevant online content. Welcome to the world of beauty blogging, Karen!
